What does it mean if all of my screen fonts look the same?
Bad News! When windows encounters a corrupt font, it turns its font display off, as a means of protection. Because Font Manager allows you to view through your uninstalled fonts, if you have a corrupt font laying dormant on the system, viewing it may trigger it off, resulting in this situation. The solution to this problem is to simply reboot the computer and avoid viewing the corrupt font (delete it if you know which one it is).
Sometimes the screen display does not match an outline effect?
In order to improve the appearance of fonts on your screen,
Windows often distorts them slightly to improve the
readability. This process is known as hinting, and while it does improve the appearance of small text on the screen, it may appear slightly different to its actual shape.
Switching into wire frame mode will provide you with an exact view of your artwork, showing you how it will cut out. You can also stop this from occurring by going to the text menu and unchecking the "Enable Screen Display" option.
My Text is
Kerning all wrong and no matter what I
try I can't get it right?
This problem is often caused by having
Windows set to display all fonts as
'Large Fonts'. This is set in the
Advanced window of Display Settings
which is located in the Windows Control
Panel. Switch this setting to 'Small
Fonts' and adjust your Display area to a
smaller size e.g. if you have your
monitor set to 1280x1024 with Large
Fonts on - try setting this to Small
Fonts at 1024x768.
What happened to a font that is no longer on the system after I reboot?
In order to display an uninstalled font, it is temporarily installed into windows. If during this process you switch to a program and use this font in a design, it will not be present when you reload the job in the future. The solution is to ensure that the last uninstalled font you view is one that you don't wish to use.
I designed a
circle effect with a particular font but
when I reload it the font is wrong?
Type some text in the job of the page,
in the font used in the circle effect
and resave the job and then reopen it
and the circle effect should have the
correct font again.
How do I copy a font from my computer to another?
From the Text menu, you will see the option "Copy Font to Disk". Select this option and choose the desired font. To get the font into the destination computer, use the Font Manager module, selecting the copied font and clicking on "Install".
How do I make screen fonts look as good as possible?
If you are using Windows 98 or above, go to your display properties (via the windows control panel) and from the "Effects" tab choose "Smooth edges of screen fonts" option.
When I exchange artwork how do I ensure that the font is included?
If the person receiving the artwork is not required to further edit it, the easiest way is simply convert the text into curves before you save it onto disk.
If this is not an option, use the
'Package' feature to create a package
file - see the VMP Manual 'Package
Files".

FAQ
What
type of fonts does VinylMaster Pro use?
VinylMaster Pro will only work with True
Type fonts.
Will
VinylMaster Pro fonts work with other
programs?
Yes. All of the fonts supplied with
VinylMaster Pro will work with other
programs such as CorelDRAW and MS Office
Applications etc. that use installed
Windows fonts. You may need to install
the fonts into Windows before the other
programs can see the fonts.
What does
'Install Fonts' mean?
For Windows and other Programs to be
able to use fonts they must be correctly
located on your computer and recognized
by Windows this is referred to as
installed fonts. Even though you may
have folders with thousands of fonts in
them these would need be installed to be
recognized by Windows Note: Don't
install more than 500 fonts as it may
significantly slow down your computer.
What do I have
to do for other programs to be able to
use VinylMaster Pro fonts?
For other programs to use the
fonts supplied with VinylMaster Pro, you
will need to install them. The easiest
way to do this is select the desired
font using the Font Manager module, and
then click the 'Install' button.
Alternatively you can install fonts via
Windows by clicking on Start->Control
Panel->Fonts then click on the 'File'
menu of the Font Window and 'Install New
Font'.
Can I use third party fonts with VinylMaster Pro?
Yes. VinylMaster Pro will use any valid
true type fonts, whether they are
installed through windows, or simply
located on your hard drive, or on a
third party CD ROM.
Why are the font names slightly different to
typical font names?
When a font vendor creates a font, they
can legally trademark the name. This
prevents other font vendors from calling
their fonts that name. They usually
choose a similar name so that we can
associate similar fonts. See the Font
Equivalency List in the Font Detective
manual for a comparison list.
How many fonts can be installed in
Windows at one time?
As mentioned above, more than 500 is
asking for trouble! Windows is not
designed to have too many fonts
installed at the same time, and really
slows down when you attempt to do so.
Because VinylMaster Pro allows you to
use uninstalled fonts, you will find a
dramatic performance increase by
minimizing the number of permanently
installed fonts. If you can manage it,
between one and two hundred is an ideal
amount.
Why should I
copy the fonts onto my hard drive?
Copying fonts onto your hard drive
allows you to view uninstalled fonts
much quicker. It is also much faster to
search for fonts using Font Detective.
Note: You do not need to copy fonts onto
your computer if you don't want to.
